Dream Diary is built to be a private place for your dreams. This policy explains, in plain language, what happens to the things you write. The short version: your diary lives on your device, we ask for no account, and the only thing that leaves your phone is the text of a dream you choose to have interpreted — sent securely to an AI to write your reading, then never stored by us, sold, or used to advertise to you.
We ask for no account, no name, and no email, and we build no profile of you. We do not track you across other apps or the web. The one thing that ever leaves your device is the text of a dream when you ask for a reading — described in "How your reading is written" below.
Every dream, note, mood, symbol, and journal entry you record is stored locally on your device using the operating system's on-device storage (AsyncStorage). Your entries are never uploaded, backed up to us, or shared. If you delete the app, that data is removed with it, so you may wish to keep your own notes of anything you want to keep.
When you ask Dream Diary to interpret a dream, the text of that dream is sent — over an encrypted connection — to our processing service (a Google Firebase Cloud Function), which passes it to a third-party AI provider, OpenAI, to generate the reflection you read. This happens only for the dream you are reading, and only when you ask for a reading.
Your dream text is used solely to write your interpretation. We do not store it on our servers, attach it to your identity, sell it, or use it for advertising. OpenAI processes the text to produce the response; under their API terms it is not used to train their models, and they retain it only for a limited period to monitor for abuse. If your phone is offline, or the AI service can't be reached, Dream Diary falls back to an on-device engine that writes a reading locally, without sending anything.
If you subscribe to Dream Diary Pro or buy the lifetime unlock, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your payment details. The store processes the transaction and tells the app only whether your purchase is active. Their handling of that transaction is governed by Apple's and Google's own privacy policies.
Dream Diary is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We ask for no personal details and build no profile, and we do not knowingly gather information from children.
